アルド・ナ・シェとは「妖精の丘」という意味で、ホテルのそばにある木でおおわれた塚に由来します。ホテルはカラ湖に西向きに面する岩の多い坂にあります。地所は故リーパー博士が1958年に購入し、その2年後からお客様を受け入れ始めました。もとは由緒あるアイルランド血筋の貴族レディ・ゴードンが建てました。先祖のベス・ストークの幽霊が徘徊すると言われた今ホテルがある土地を買い、1913年に「マイ
夢の家」を建て始めました。キルオグリンの建設業者の助けをかりて、地元の職工を使い、材料は緑灰色のウェストモーランド屋根石板以外はすべてアイルランド製です。家は長く低く切妻屋根で、石の縦仕切りにはめた両開き窓があり、レディ・ゴードンが言うには「...新しく見えたことは決してなかった」。おそらくは暖茶色の砂岩かケリーの気候ゆえに、何世紀も雨風にじかにさらされた様相。建築家のモーリー・ホーデン（すぐれた能力よりも甘い外見から選ばれた）は、古代ケルト文明のケリーでの唯一の生き残りである崩れた教会からアイデアを得ました。
